Video: Alan Jope, CEO Unilever on Leadership
In October 2021, Alan Jope joined us for a Wavelength Inspire session where he shared his perspectives on leadership. This is short highlights video features some of what he said.
Alan sees himself as a “work in progress” when it comes to his own leadership; but he spoke very insightfully about bringing his experiences and attitudes to bear in business by inspiring others.
He described the importance of mastering his own “inner game” (his own sense of his strengths and weaknesses, his triggers and misbehaviours) before he felt he had earned the right to lead others through the “outer game”. With self-leadership being a precursor to leading others it was fascinating to hear how Alan had found time and space to understand himself; through adventurous motorcycle tours around the world (even if he and his companions average a broken bone every other trip), and a spot of amateur football.
